While most of Buffalo didn't have to work yesterday for Martin Luther King Day, many of us still volunteered, including me! My fellow AmeriCorps and I here at the Greater Buffalo Chapter, spent the day helping our Buffalo neighbors insulate their homes with WNY AmeriCorps and the Buffalo Green Team thanks to the money saving equipment provided by National Fuel.
We put up window insulation, vent directors, insulation foam and outlet covers in participating neighborhoods near Martin Luther King Park and the Old First Ward to help improve and conserve their heat.
Although it is nice to have days off, knowing that we actually helped change families lives here in Buffalo was much more rewarding then loafing around like I would have if I didn’t take advantage of this great volunteer opportunity.
So Buffalo, be sure to take advantage of all of the volunteer opportunities available to you! If you would like to volunteer with us here at the American Red Cross, visit us online!
